Jamie Bastedo, former CBC North host and author of Shield Country: The Life and Times of the
Oldest Piece of the Planet, Reaching North: A Celebration of the Subarctic and Blue Lake and
Rocky Shores, reflects on the charm and mystery of the Canadian Shield. He writes to inform
and to inspire, telling a "story of place." He lives in Yellowknife, NWT and operates a
touring company that takes tourists on tours of the North and also runs an environmental
consulting company. Jamie Bastedo feels passionate about the pristine wilderness and hopes
that others will fall in love with it too.
Jamie Bastedo's work is all about taking science to the streets. Whether playing zany
environmental songs around the campfire, hosting lively nature shows on the radio, performing
as an arctic explorer, directing science videos, running outdoor education camps,
leading ecotours, or writing about some marvel of nature, Jamie Bastedo spreads a
catching enthusiasm and love for the land. Well established as a popular science writer,
he has written four books on northern nature and over 30 natural history features in
numerous magazines, including Up Here, Backpacker, and Winter Living.
The idea for Tracking Triple Seven was born in the back of a helicopter while
Jamie was working as a field biologist in the central arctic barren–lands.
When not out on the land, he hangs his hat in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories,
where he lives with his wife and two daughters |
