Kevin Major was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland. He graduated from Memorial University, B.Sc.,
in 1973 and taught school in several Newfoundland communities. In 1978 he published his first novel,
Hold Fast, and his life changed permanently. Over the years other novels followed, no two alike,
yet most holding in some way to his Newfoundland roots. Since then he has written a number of
young adult novels, two adult novels, and one picture book–the best–selling Christmas classic
The House of Wooden Santas. His writing has earned him many awards, including the MR. CHRISTIE'S
BOOK AWARD for The House of Wooden Santas. Kevin Major lives in St. John's, Newfoundland
with his wife and two sons. His picture book, Eh? to Zed: A Canadian
