Richard Menkis is an associate professor at the University of British Columbia,
where he teaches Jewish history. He was the founding editor of the journal
Canadian Jewish Studies/Études juives canadiennes. Special issues of that journal
included New Perspectives on Canada: The Holocaust and Survivors, co–edited
with Paula Draper, as well as Jews and Judaism in Canada: A Bibliography of
Works Published After 1965, co–compiled with Michael Brown, Ben Schlesinger
and Stuart Schoenfeld. A native of Toronto, Richard Menkis has published on
anti-Semitism in Canada and on the history of Canadian Jewish identities. His
current research focuses on historical writing and historical memory in the
Canadian Jewish community. He has served as Scholar-in-Residence at
Concordia University's Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies, as well as a fellow
at the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati.
